Mowing and Baling for Winter Feed

On a fine day when the grass is ready the field is mowed starting from the outside of the field working inwards

The next day following the same circuit we used for mowing, the cuttings are collected with our new baler. *

When the bale is the right size the bale is wrapped in a thin net and is discharged ready for later collection *
Using a special fork-lift on the tractor the bales are picked up one by one and taken to a flat-bed trailer *

The trailer is slowly pulled around the field and is gradually filled to capacity ready for taking back to the farm for wrapping *
Those who came to our open day will remember our bale wrapper. The bales are loaded onto the bed of the wrapper *

Each bale is automatically wrapped and spun until the bale is contained in an air-tight wrap *
The final stage is each of the wrapped bales is taken to a store area where the grass is stored for use months later as winter feed *
